CONTEXT

We all need some healing MANGO MAGIC. Especially de man dem.
Mental health is rapidly declining across the board, and males are bearing the brunt. In Jamaica and around the world, men are less likely to seek help or even speak about their emotional and mental states, largely because of gender stereotypes and taboos that have, for generations, led them to internalise and suppress their emotions instead of exposing and processing them. In the UK, men account for almost 80% of all suicides, which is the leading cause of death among men under 35. Jamaican men are less likely to kill themselves, instead, their unprocessed emotions fuel our island nation’s rampant gun and domestic violence.

OUR MISSION

-
Catalyse individual and collective healing through the power of storytelling
-
Educate, inspire and empower men, women and youth to prioritise mental health and emotional wellbeing
-
Normalise male vulnerability and break the cycles of silence, shame, and suffering that in turn feed cycles of violence, suicide and substance abuse
OUR VISION
We envision a world where children, men and women alike know more about and feel empowered to prioritise their mental and emotional wellbeing. We aim to break down social stigmas and gender stereotypes, promote emotional awareness, intelligence and vulnerability, and build a community that values, supports and celebrates mental health and human emotions as fundamental to our health and wellbeing. We are also committed to sustainable practices and the regeneration of Mother Nature.
OUR PLAN
Stinky Mango is a metaphor for what happens when we don’t face difficult emotions and instead, let them rot inside. Our short film (by that name) serves as the gateway for impactful discussions around the theme of mental and emotional wellbeing, particularly as it affects men and boys, by shining a light on the cultural fallacy that “big men nuh cry” and the dire consequences that suppressing our emotions can have on us and the people we love.
Our robust, 12 to 18-month-long public awareness and social impact campaign will use the power of visual storytelling and interactive events to change the narrative around mental and emotional wellbeing, especially when it comes to men and boys, and provide resources and tools for a deeper understanding of our emotional, human nature, including a companion workbook and supportive community.

BASKET OF ADVISORS
We are actively seeking experts and professionals active in the field of mental health, and especially, male mental health, to join our Basket of Advisors.
